Salt air, a sunset and a fire show. Here is how to pull off hibachi at the beach without surprises.
Where the grill goes
Most beach parties end up on a deck, driveway or patio at the house. Grilling on the sand itself depends on local rules, which change from beach to beach — check before you plan it.
Check the rental rules
Many rentals have rules on outdoor propane grills. Read the listing or ask the owner, then put the address and any gate codes in your booking notes.
Wind and weather
Pick a spot with a wall or house at your back if it's windy. Your chef cooks rain or shine — plan a covered spot like a patio, garage, carport or tent.
Stairs
The cooking spot must be reachable on a level path with no steps. If there are stairs or a steep hill, the host provides help carrying the equipment. Beach houses on stilts often need a hand here.
Book ahead for summer
Summer weekends at the beach go first. Book as soon as your rental is locked in.
