Good setup makes a good party. Here is how to get your backyard ready in under an hour.
Space for the grill
You need about a 10 × 10 foot spot on flat, firm ground — patio, deck, driveway or level grass. The grill runs on propane, so no outlet or water hookup is needed.
Getting the grill there
The cooking spot must be reachable on a level path with no steps. If there are stairs or a steep hill, the host provides help carrying the equipment.
Seating
Put chairs in a U around the grill so every guest faces the chef, about three feet back. No tables? Add tables with linens, chairs and plate settings for $5 a guest each.
Weather
Your chef cooks rain or shine — plan a covered spot like a patio, garage, carport or tent. A pop-up tent, covered patio or open garage all work.
Wind and neighbors
Pick a sheltered corner if it's windy. It never hurts to give the neighbors a heads-up about the flames — or invite them.
